The Mediterranean Exchange of Archaeological Tourism, unique global event of its kind, is a successful format as testified by the prestigious collaborations of Unesco, Unwto, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Tourism with Enit National Agency of Tourism, and also by 7.000 visitors, 150 Exhibitors with 15 Foreign Countries, 100 conferences and meetings with 550 speakers in 5 halls working together,31 European and national buyers, 140 sellers, 120 journalists.

The Exchange confirms itself to be an occasion of meeting for professional business, tourist and cultural operators, travellers and enthusiasts, and a forum for research and debate on cultural heritage and tourism issues, a great container with 12 sections: the Exhibition hall on 4.000 sq mt with 18 Italian regions; ArchaeoVirtual, the innovative international exhibition of multimedia, interactive and virtual technologies; the Workshop among foreign buyers selected by Enit, specialized national buyers and cultural and archaeological tourism offer, ArchaeoExperience, Laboratories of Experimental Archaeology to explain the techniques used in the past to create artifacts used in daily life; ArchaeoIncoming exhibition space and Workshop with tour operators specialized in Italian tourist-archaeological destinations; ArchaeoMeetings for press conferences and presentations of cultural and territorial development projects; ArchaeoWorking, post-graduate and post-doctoral orientation with the introduction of the educational offer by the Universities participating in the Exhibition Hall; ArchaeoStartUp, new cultural enterprises and innovative projects in archaeological activities; Meet the Protagonists where famous TV hosts meet the audience; “Antonella Fiammenghi” Award for the best thesis on archaeological tourism; “Paestum Mario Napoli” Award assigned to those who contribute to the valorization of archaeological heritage; the programme of Guided Tours and educationals for journalists and visitors.

Underlining the importance that cultural heritage holds as element of intercultural dialogue, of social integration and economic development, the Exchange promotes the cooperation among people through the participation and the sharing of experiences: Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Syria, France, Algeria, Greece, Libia, Peru, Portugal, Cambodia, Turkey, Armenia, Venezuela, Azerbaijan, India have been Official Guest Countries over the years and since 2015, the International Archaeological Discovery Award “Khaled al-Asaad”, named after the Director of the archaeological site of Palmyra: the Exchange and Archeo in collaboration with the magazines international media partners Antike Welt (Germany), Archäologie in Deutschland (Germany), Archéologia (France), Archäologie Schweiz (Switzerland), Current Archaeology (United Kingdom), Dossiers d’Archéologie (France) choose and honor the archaeological discovery of the year.

Since 2021 the “Sebastiano Tusa” Award to the archaeological discovery of the year, as a lifelong achievement award, to the exhibition in an international scientific context, to the most innovative project, to the educational journalism contribution.
