On the occasion of the 2019 edition, the BMTA posthumously awarded the “Paestum” Award to Sebastiano Tusa, in order to honor the memory of a great archaeologist, scholar, and friend of the Exhibition, but above all a man of Southern Italy who dedicated his life to serving public institutions, contributing to local development and to the protection of the Mare Nostrum.
From this initiative, under the scientific coordination of Luigi Fozzati, came the idea of organizing the Mediterranean Conference on Underwater Archaeological Tourism on an annual basis, with the aim of highlighting Mediterranean underwater archaeological destinations, as well as the “Sebastiano Tusa” International Underwater Archaeology Award, established to commemorate his commitment, vision, and projects.
The Award is presented in the following categories:
- Lifetime Achievement Award;
- Best Exhibition in the International Scientific Field;
- Most Innovative Project by Institutions, Museums, and Archaeological Parks;
- Best Journalistic Contribution in the Field of Public Outreach and Dissemination.
